Farm to Bar 70% — Toasted Coffee From Loja
$11.90
The Toasted Coffee bar by Ecuadorian Essence combines 70% single-origin Nacional cacao from Manabí with toasted coffee from Loja, in Ecuador’s southern Andes, and honey, creating a bold, aromatic dark chocolate for coffee lovers.
Description
Two of Ecuador’s Crops in One Bar
Ecuadorian Essence joins cacao from Ecuador’s coast with coffee from its southern Andes in the Toasted Coffee bar, creating a chocolate made entirely from Ecuadorian ingredients and made in Ecuador.
Nacional cacao, the “Arriba” variety, grows in Manabí on the equator with close to twelve hours of daylight all year. Ecuador is the world’s largest producer of fine flavor cacao, a category that represents only about 5% of global production according to the International Cocoa Organization.
Loja, in the southern highlands near the border with Peru, grows coffee on mountain slopes. The bar is brought to the Washington DC area by Ecuadorian Essence, a family from Ecuador, and is not sold in national chains.
Tasting Notes
The Ecuadorian Essence Toasted Coffee bar opens with the aroma of toasted coffee, blends its gentle bitterness with the fruity profile of 70% Nacional cacao, and finishes long, with coffee and cacao together.
Honey adds just enough sweetness to round the edges. It is the boldest bar in the Farm to Bar collection.
At 70% cacao, the bar is intense enough for dark chocolate lovers, and the coffee makes it the natural choice for people who enjoy espresso.
Ingredients
70% cacao from Manabí, Ecuador; cane sugar; honey; toasted coffee from Loja. Contains natural caffeine from coffee and cacao. Made without nuts; may contain traces of soy. Not vegan, because the Farm to Bar line is sweetened with cane sugar and honey. Always check the label for the complete ingredient list and allergen statement.
Why Coffee and Cacao Pair So Well
Ecuadorian Essence pairs coffee with cacao because both are seeds of tropical fruits that are processed after harvest and roasted, developing related toasted and caramelized notes.
In this bar, the fruity character of Nacional cacao keeps the coffee from feeling heavy, while the coffee gives the chocolate a deeper, roastier backbone.
That shared character is why a good coffee and a good chocolate seem to complete each other.
How to Enjoy the Toasted Coffee Bar
Ecuadorian Essence recommends the Toasted Coffee bar with a morning espresso or after lunch, because it contains natural caffeine from coffee and cacao.
It pairs well with black coffee, whisky or aged rum, and with desserts built on vanilla or caramel. Store in a dry place at 16–18°C (below 75°F) to avoid melting. Chocolate absorbs aromas easily, so keep it away from strong odors.

FAQs
What does the Toasted Coffee chocolate taste like?
The Ecuadorian Essence Toasted Coffee bar tastes bold and aromatic, because toasted coffee from Loja brings roasted bitterness, honey rounds the edges and 70% Nacional cacao from Manabí adds fruity, floral depth with a long finish. It is the boldest bar in the Farm to Bar collection. Honey and cane sugar sweeten the bar, and at 70% cacao it is intense enough for dark chocolate lovers. Store it in a dry place at 16–18°C (below 75°F).
Where does the coffee in this chocolate come from?
Ecuadorian Essence uses toasted coffee from Loja, a province in Ecuador’s southern Andes near the border with Peru, pairing it with Nacional cacao from Manabí to create a bar made entirely from Ecuadorian ingredients. The chocolate is made in Ecuador. Loja coffee grows on mountain slopes, while the Nacional cacao grows on the Pacific coast, so the bar joins two regions of Ecuador. It is sold in the DMV by Ecuadorian Essence.
Does the coffee chocolate contain caffeine?
The Ecuadorian Essence Toasted Coffee bar contains natural caffeine from both the coffee and the 70% cacao, which makes it a chocolate for the daytime. Ecuadorian Essence recommends enjoying it with a morning espresso or after lunch rather than late in the evening. It pairs well with black coffee, whisky or aged rum. For the evening, a caffeine-free option from the collection is ECP Calm, made without guayusa or coffee.
Is the Toasted Coffee bar vegan?
The Ecuadorian Essence Toasted Coffee bar is not vegan, because the Farm to Bar line is sweetened with cane sugar and honey.
