Description

A Bar That Begins in the Flowers of Ecuador

Ecuadorian Essence combines bee pollen and honey with Nacional cacao from Manabí, Ecuador, because their floral character matches the natural floral aroma of this fine-aroma cacao.
Nacional cacao, the “Arriba” variety, grows in Manabí on the equator with close to twelve hours of daylight all year. Ecuador is the world’s largest producer of fine flavor cacao, a category that represents only about 5% of global production according to the International Cocoa Organization.
The Bee Pollen bar is made in Ecuador and brought to the Washington DC area by Ecuadorian Essence, a family from Ecuador. It is not sold in national chains.

Tasting Notes

The Ecuadorian Essence Bee Pollen bar offers a subtle crunch and a floral sweetness from the pollen, softened by honey, before 70% Nacional cacao unfolds in fruity layers with a gentle bitterness.
It is the most distinctive bar in the Farm to Bar collection — a chocolate for people who like to discover something new.

Ingredients

70% cacao from Manabí, Ecuador; cane sugar; honey; bee pollen. Made without nuts; may contain traces of soy. Not vegan, because the Farm to Bar line is sweetened with cane sugar and honey. Always check the label for the complete ingredient list and allergen statement.

Allergy Information

This bar contains bee pollen. People with allergies to pollen or bee products should avoid it or consult their doctor before trying it.

What Is Bee Pollen?

Bee pollen is the pollen honeybees gather from flowers and pack into small granules, and Ecuadorian Essence adds it to this bar for its texture and floral sweetness.
Bee pollen has been used as a food in many cultures and is often sprinkled over yogurt, bowls and cereals. Its flavor changes with the flowers the bees visit — sweet, floral, sometimes slightly earthy.

Bee Pollen Beyond Chocolate

Ecuadorian Essence uses bee pollen in this bar the way cooks use it in the kitchen: as a finishing touch that adds color, crunch and a floral note.
If you enjoy this bar, try sprinkling bee pollen over yogurt, salads or toast with honey.
In this bar, the pollen plays the same role, adding texture and a floral note to fine Ecuadorian cacao.

How to Enjoy the Bee Pollen Bar

Ecuadorian Essence recommends tasting the Bee Pollen bar slowly and on its own first, so the pollen’s texture can be noticed against the melting chocolate.
It pairs well with chamomile or green tea, a light white wine, fresh berries or soft cheeses. Store in a dry place at 16–18°C (below 75°F) to avoid melting.
