Ecuadorian Essence sources the cacao for the Mood Box from Ecuador, the world’s largest producer of fine flavor cacao, so every bar starts with one of the most valued cacao origins in the world.
Ecuador sits directly on the equator, where days last close to twelve hours all year long. According to the International Cocoa Organization, fine flavor cacao represents only about 5% of global cacao production, and Ecuador supplies more of it than any other country. The cacao in the Mood bars is Nacional — the variety Ecuadorians call “Arriba” — from the coastal province of Manabí, known for its floral aroma, fruity notes and a slight final bitterness.
Each bar is made in Ecuador and brought to the Washington DC area by Ecuadorian Essence, a family from Ecuador. The Mood collection is not sold in national chains or large marketplaces.
